A Piece of Findlay History- Tell Taylor

Tell Taylor is a local hero to Findlay, Ohio. He was a vaudevillian, songwriter, and playwright from our area. He was born on October 14, 1876 in Vanlue, Ohio and lived until November 24, 1937 when he died of a heart attack in Chicago. He is buried in the Van Horn Cemetery in Findlay.
Tell Taylor's most famous work was his song "Down by the Old Mill Stream" which he wrote about his youth spent along the Blanchard River. Also to his credit are the songs "He Sleeps Beneath the Soil of France", "I Love You Best of All", "If Dreams Come True", "Little Old Home in the Valley", "Rock Me to Sleep in the Old Rocking Chair", "Some Day", and "When the Maple Leaves Were Falling". He also wrote two comical Broadway musicals: Tiger Lillee and In New York Town.
You can still visit Tell Taylor's house in Findlay, on Sandusky Ave. by the Fairgrounds. There is also a memorial to the songwriter and his famous ballad about the Blanchard River in Riverside Park.
Riverside Park is a great place to take your feet in nice weather. You can soak those feet in the community pool, or even in the Blanchard itself. The park also offers great opportunities for both paddle boating and canoeing. And of course the park is a great place to walk- an activity which is good for your feet and your overall health and well-being.
