Wet Weather and Your Feet

Wet weather and your feet are not the best combination. Added wetness in your shoes increases your risk of fungal growth. Try these tips for during wet weather:
-Don't be afraid to wear two pairs of shoes. Wearing rain boots helps keep your feet and the shoes you intend to wear all day dry. It is a good idea to wear one pair of shoes or boots outside on rainy or snowy days and change once you are inside. This also protects nicer dress shoes from the elements.
-Change shoes daily. Your shoes need time to fully dry out, even from the sweat of wearing them for a normal day. You should alternate your shoes so that they have the time to dry fully.
-Waterproof your shoes. Purchasing and using a spray which waterproofs your shoes not only helps create a moisture barrier, it also prolongs the life of your shoes and keeps them looking nice. Follow all directions for any product you may chose to use.
-Use a foot powder. Powders help keep your shoes and your feet dry by absorbing moisture. Try using the link to our online store or stopping by our office for good powders, including those that fight fungi.
-Dry your feet thoroughly after showering or bathing. It is important that you dry between your toes and the soles of your feet along with the tops of your feet. You should not put on shoes while your feet are wet.
-Spray the insides of your shoes with lysol to help kill germs that cause fungi and odor in your shoes.
-Change wet socks. If your socks get wet or you perspire a lot during the day, it is a good idea to change your socks at least once in the middle of the day. Don't wear socks that are already wet or sweaty, but put on clean, fresh, dry socks.
