A Hot Summer

It is getting to be the time of year to sweat. The temperature rises and the humidity increases. Even today's forecast calls for temperatures of almost 90 degrees! Although the warm weather is part of the reason we love summer, it can also be dangerous. Don't forget to stay hydrated when you're in the sun. And even if you aren't sweating profusely, you are still losing water. Thinking you don't need to hydrate is when ailments like heat exhaustion can sneak up on you. During the summer your whole body will sweat, including your feet. It is important to address proper care for sweaty feet, because fungi are attracted to moist, wet areas. Follow these tips to summer foot care:

-Change your socks daily, or twice daily if you need to. Since fungi are attracted to moisture, changing your socks helps remove a lot of the moisture from your shoes. This will also help you feel more comfortable during the day and reduce foot odor. If your socks get wet in pools, puddles, or by some other means, you should change them for dry ones. This will also help prevent blisters or abrasions from rubbing.

-Alternate shoes. Shoes do require about a day to dry out thoroughly, so alternate your shoes to give them time to do so.

-Wash and dry your feet daily. Washing your feet helps to kill any fungi or bacteria that may be on your feet. You also need to remember to dry your feet thoroughly, even between the toes. If you are experiencing athlete's foot, try using Funga Soap from our online store at: http://www.ourdoctorstore.com/vail/store/item.asp?ITEM_ID=504&DEPARTMENT_ID=183 which helps relieve the symptoms of athlete's foot.

-Use a foot powder. Foot powders help to keep the foot dry, and absorb sweat. This will not only reduce your chances of fungi, it will make your feet feel more comfortable.
