Rollerblading/Roller Skating Fun

Many of us are looking for activities we can do this summer. We enjoy the outdoors and physical activity. Even when not working out, many people still want to be active and enjoy the sunshine. Rollerblading or roller skating is a great way to do this, and it involves your feet. First of all, roller skating is an inexpensive hobby with basic equipment. All you need is a pair of skates (which you should size for comfort and support and break in slowly to avoid blisters and other problems) and a helmet. If you are a beginner it can also be a good idea to buy protection for the areas which are most commonly injured: elbows, knees, and wrist pads. Secondly, roller blading is easy in most urban and suburban areas as there are many well kept roads which offer a variety or areas to skate. You can even use your skates as transportation to places you want to go and reduce the amount of gas you consume by driving. Lastly, skating is good exercise. A 190 lb person will burn about 319 calories per half hour of skating. And this isn't just an activity for the individual, but is great for families and couples as well. Perhaps your children ride their bikes a little faster than you walk, but not as fast as you ride a bike. Skating will provide you the extra speed to keep pace with your children, without leaving them behind. And skates still offer you the flexibility to interact closely with them. Try packing a water bottle and a pair of flip flops in a small book bag if you need to enter a building or store. Remember that appropriate socks are important and to air your skates out after use. It is also smart to spray your skates with Lysol to disinfect them- the same basic concerns you have with shoes apply to your skates. And don't forget to wear sunscreen anytime you are outside. When the weather gets bad and you miss skating, don't forget you can switch to ice skating or go to an indoor roller skating rink to keep your skills sharp.

Did you break your skates in too quickly? Perhaps you didn't wear tall enough socks for your skates and a blister developed? Visit our online store for many blister and skin care products. One blister product we offer is the Body Guard Tender Touch Gel Pads for the protection of blisters or other sensitive or irritated skin areas. The pads stick to skin without adhesive and are reusable. They are to help prevent rubbing, pressure, or friction against your skin.
